welcome aboard

properly lube and keep it clean and she'll take care of you!

Oh, you might want to send it to me to make sure it's operating correctly. I wouldn't want anything to happen to you,"Wave"

Oh, it is new or used? Used, you might want to go thru it and give it a once over.

I use the GI web sling (M14) on mine

Wave, As I recall you already have an M1 correct? The M1A gets lubed in much the same way. As far as the Scout goes, if you use an optical sight, your cheek weld will be raised about 2 inches. It may give you an unsteady feeling. If you want a consistent cheek weld that will give you fast target acquisition then you are going to need to raise the comb somehow. I can't help with the sling question. I either go without a sling or use the G.I. nylon sling. Great choice in a firearm, enjoy.
Someone needs to make an M-14 stock with accessory rails. A tac light or laser would be fun on a Scout.

Edited to add;
Go to www.coledistributing.com for the mags.

Welcome Ray. I added a Recoil Buffer from Buffer Technologies to my Standard M1A

i use a buffer in my M1A, but since i shoot HP matches. i have to replace the buffer every 2000rnds or so as the buffer gets hard and cracks.. but.. i usually run through 4000rnds a year between matrches and practice... so i guess i DO get my $$ worth from these buffers.. they REALLY help in the 600yd stage as we run hot loads through our rifles to keep the bullets supersonic

Congrats on the wise purchase! When do you want to meet up at the Pine Barrens to break it in? Let me know and I'll bring my Std. along for company.

I'm partial to the GI nylon sling, myself. I sold my standard (idiot), but will be getting a bush rifle after the new year. For a cheekpiece, try Brownells; hell, they have everything else.
