After years and years of hearing my dad tell me how much he wanted a M1A, I finally bought him one.  He served in the USMC from 1966-1970.  Naturally he had an M14 in boot camp and everywhere else he was stationed except for VN.  He has never really liked the M16 and he had Mini-14s over the years to satisfy the desire of the M14.

Finances finally allowed me to spend the cash on a NIB SA M1A.  He was so excited to get it and he was really proud of me for caring about him so much as to make the big purchase.

Opening the Rifle:

Here he is after he opened it:

And were were off to the range.  We zeroed it at 25 yrds and then shot a bunch of rocks at 150 yrds.

The 20 RND USGI mags I got from Armalite functioned 100%.
The Crappy 10 RND from Springfield failed to have the spring power to feed cartriges part of the time.

Nevermind.

I must say, he doesn't look old at ALL. Not a day over 40 I'd say if math didn't tell me otherwise.

You ever think of bringing him to Perry? Even though its not the best timing for most NRA shooters, there will be an M-14 match there 2007.

I want to get my grandfather a CMP garand, but i am really not in the fianancial position to do it.  He is a WWII era Marine, so I know he would love one.  I showed him mine a little while ago, and though he didnt say a whole lot, I could tell it brought back some memories.  Other problem is gramps lives in a relatively small apartment, so I don't know how much he would be able to get out there and shoot it.

If you make a few calls to the CMP they might be willing to help you out a bit. Its certainly happened before!

his birthday is comming in October.  I might get it for him then.  Only problem is that I will be living in TX at the time, and he lives in Ft. Lauderdale.  I could have it shipped to him, but I would rather get my hands on it first to clean it up really nice, and maybe even put it in a display case of some sort.  He most likely won't shoot it, but he would certainly appreciate it if I made it into a nice wallhanger, maybe in a USMC themed shadow box.

Maybe she is jealous?  I can't for the life of figure out why, I got her one of those crock pots that has the lid that laches down.  That way she can cook and take food to dinners and stuff.

This is a cool thread.  Good job man.  Great pics too.  My dad gave me his M1A because he didn't like the recoil.  He loves to shoot his M4gery though.  My dad wasn't in the military though.

Nap Tan, don't you have like 10 of them laying around?  You can't spare 1?
