I just wondering if you guys could give me suggestions for my next AR project, but first this is what i have:

Preban M4
Preban 20" A2 service rifle with scope, bipod and cheek piece
Postban AKA3 shorty
Postban Colt Barrel 20" with smith muzzle brake
Postban Oly 9mm conversion
Postban Dissipator

I was originally going to buy a FAL, but my instincts told me to stay AR loyal. The FAL is a fine rifle for some, but I have been trained with the M16A2 service rifle and will stick with it. Besides that I already have a M1A and a PSS. I feel that I have the 308 field covered.

I have another lower coming and I have a hard time deciding what to do next.

Appreciate the input gents.

How about a .22 LR dedicated upper?

Maybe consider a bull barrel upper?

If you were originally going to get a FAL but want to be AR15-compliant, then get an AR10.

You are lacking an ultra-accurate .223, like the M15A4(T) or Varminter.

.308 field covered? No AR10?

Yep, you NEED a varmint AR.

Falarak,
I like your setup. That style of AR is appealing to me. Should I do the 16" or 20"?

FMJunkie,
The AR10 is something to be considered. What about mags are they hard to find? Can I modify my M1A mags?

You guys are the reason why I am broke.

Great idea or a varmint AR

I second the idea for the varmint upper I think that is a great idea. What about a super bull upper like the ones DPMS offers. I have always thought they were very interesting.
Just my .02
By the way, FALARK, what type of scope setup is that on your rifle, that rig looks great.

I guess I will do the AR Varmint rig.

Faralak gave me the inspiration.

Now the AR10 has me interested........[:\]

Remember that set-up will be close to ten Lbs. It looks like a RRA varminter. Nice, very nice.

Well, I now think that a 20" is a sad compromise in the Varmint arena. I would go 16" or 24" I hear DPMS makes a very good floated bull 16"

It really depends on how far you plan on shooting. If you really are going to make loads for long 600m plus shots, then the 24" is invaluable... however, these longer shots need larger bullets, and tighter twists.

The 16" barrels are awesome for real light varmin loads at closer ranges tho. Just depends on what application you want.

Mine is a RRA bull upper, but I need to handload to really see what it is capable of. I get sub MOA with BH blue box 52 and 68 Gr ammo... but I am not getting the .5MOA that I was hoping for.

Is the new lower pre or post ban?
Either way, I'd suggest a Bushmaster V-MATCH 24 upper, in plain vanilla. No sights or bayonet lug.
I just got a post ban lower for my upper, as described, and I'm real happy with it.
It's not a super heavy bull bbl., but, it'll do for the enhanced range and tighter group capability.
Good luck.
Great problem to solve.
