Have you tried it?  Did you like it?  I'll be loading 70, 75, and 77gr HPBTs.  What was your recipe?

AR Comp Data

Thanks, B

It is a very good powder, but I prefer the IMR 8208 XBR for the heavies in the .223/5.56.

It can be awesome with 55 Nosler BT's.

Loaded Hornady 75's and Sierra 77's with AR Comp and 8202.   I loaded 100 rounds.  50 of each bullet and powder.  For the AR Comp I loaded 5 of each brand of bullet with 22.0, 21.5, 21.0, 20.5, and 20gr.  For the 8208 I loaded 5 of each brand with 22.5, 22.0, 21.5, 21.0, and 20.5.

Hello all, new member and seen your post for AR COMP.  I am currently loading 23.5 gr under a Hornady 75 gr BTHP.  Seated to std COL and am getting 2850 out of a 24 in tube with a 1 in 8 twist with no signs of pressure.  no pics but probably about .6 MOA at  100 yards

Compared to Alliant's own published data, your load seems pretty hot.  How many rounds have you put down range with that load?

went to Iowa and did some 6 and 800 meter stuff with different weapon systems.  This load shot all day probably around 400 rounds with no issues.  when I did the work up I did both varget and ARcomp.  I had been shooting 22.5 varget and wanted to go for accuracy so I started by working both powders up till I got what i thought was good enough for me.  I went up in .2 grain increments on both powders and ended up with 23.5 arcomp giving me about 2850 fps and 24 gr of varget giving me just a touch over 2800.  Not one casing showed signs of pressure.

Maxload per Alliant is 23 grains giving you 2816, but out of what kind of rifle and barrel?  most published data is very conservative, but always start low and work up.  I run 45 grains varget in my 308 bolt gun which has a 20 in  1 in 10 twist barrel  giving me 2650fps.
