Well, after years of looking at this thread I finally just did it. Decided to give my 10.5 and 12.5 a quick and dirty refinish.

Since the MAWL is already colored, I'd leave it alone. Maybe throw some paint on the can, or just get a cover. Looks nice.

Thanks. I’m happy with the way it turned out.

I need to get some duracoat or other high heat paint for the can. It’s on the list of things to do. Might just sponge paint the  Mawl. Why not?

Just finished this two-stamp with Duracoat and tried stencils for the first time. Little harder than fabric and vinyl, but it worked well enough.

Colors are Duracoat Tactical Coyote Brown and Tactical Foliage Green. Picked it for my surroundings (Utah/alpine desert), blends in quite well.

Have only seen one LMT BUIS for replacements back in 14'.  Always KAC 300m or 600m that we get from Crane.

PSA : Recyling the wire frames from election signs/ yard signs works perfectly for hanging parts for painting.

They are easy to cut and bend and they hold heavy parts securely.

Why ruin it with additional (and unnecessary) colors?  It looks done to me. Walk it back to that tree line, and stand it up. Walk back and take your picture again. See what I'm talking about? It doesn't need anything else.

You know I keep seeing you say this over and over and I think your comment is self-defeating.

You say only a single color is needed because you walk back and all you can see in a pattern is a single color anyway.  That all it needs is something not black.  Well, his is still not black.  It doesn’t matter that 100 yards away it blends to one color.  It’s not black and you say that’s all that matter.  BUT, up closer his actually has benefits that yours doesn’t so I’d argue the pattern still reigns supreme.

I’ve seen patterns that are so good that 5 yards away they literally disappear.  Yours won’t.

This is spot on. And I don't live in the open desert. If I left it the base color it stands out like a sore thumb against all the green trees here. Lol.

"5 yards away they literally disappear."

Seems to me like a lot here don't really understand what painting rifles....even just a single plain monochromatic earth tone color...accomplishes. But y'all keep on keepin' on with your elaborate cammie rattlecan jobs.

Yup, literally disappear, whether you like it or not.

Either way you’re wrong.  It really doesn’t matter and there’s literally zero detriment to having a pattern because at bare minimum it does exactly what your single color does at the same distance per your own claim, which laughably, provides the same benefit.  At best it provides a break up of the traditional outline over a larger spectrum of distances.

Funny enough your own pictures of claimed blending in to environments shows yours as easier to spot than half the patterned ones I’ve seen.

You’re not convincing anyone.

Not really.  Many patterns I've seen in this thread are far darker than they should be to accomplish what you claim.

Understanding how the human brain perceives and processes seen objects in the visible light wavelength/spectrum is key.

Skilcraft Tan Obliterating Compound and Rustoleum Earth Brown. This stuff dries really fast and isn't sticky at all. It also wears away easier than Krylon, which I like. The best paint jobs are salty.

I built a 6.5grendel upper for the upcoming deer season.   The lower it will go on has the snakeskin look from  a laundry bag.

Did something different on this one, went fir a shadow grass look like some duck hunting patterns.

Turned out decent.    The upper and lower dont match but that doesn't matter.  This build had a SS barrel so this will break things up well.

After the second picture I went back and dusted with some brown to mute the hard line edges a bit.
