I was hoping for a color change at least, but the paint job on the XM-25 looks even worse that what we have now...

Well, hell, I guess I shouldn't laugh. There's nothing funny about sending soldiers to their deaths in neon glow-in-the-dark "camo".

Whoever is responsible for that sorry ass excuse for camo should be fired.

Whoever is responsible for that sorry ass excuse for camo should be fired dressed in it and sent alone into a firefight against a platoon size element.

Fixed.

Those black glasses and NVG mount really stick out.

It's actually advised now overseas to take the NVG bracket off when you don't need it. Snipers are using that as their aiming point.

He's good to go if we ever go to war in a gravel pit.

I'm wondering if ACU was intended to help defeat the enemy's night vision capability as well.

YES, I think it blows goats as far as a daytime pattern goes, the Army would have been much better served by the Crye MultiCam...but when I look at the ACU, it kinda sorta reminds me of the "night time NVG" pattern parkas that were used back during the Desert Storm era...only the ACU is a little bit lighter...

Anybody else have any experience/thoughts on the matter?

wow...there are actually instances where ACU blends in...

From that thread:

Now if ACU actually looked like that (Green and Tan, instead of various Greys) there would be no complaints.

They'll blend anywhere if you use the right filter on the camera

In actual useage they are perfect for search and rescue, school crossing guard, football referee or anyone else needing a extremely high degree if visibility.

They work great for defeating NVGs. Find someone in the mix of colors/patterns and have them go out at night.  You'll see their woodland pattern helmet before their UCP covered body.

I pray to God we don't ever have to go somewhere like Burma, north Korea, China, or anywhere tropical like parts of Africa or our troops are going to be sticking out BIG TIME.

ACU works alright in parts of Iraq and is decent enough for Afghanistan with all the rocks, but it 100% sucks everywhere else and really isn't all that great in those places either.

I agree this is the US Army being stuborn as hell and hard headed with their refusal to recognize a SERIOUS mistake here.  Whoever designed that crap should be $%&* canned and have their eyes checked.

They need to darken the colors and it would be fine.  Ive got a bunch that look like cook whites that still have tags on them, its pitiful.  a tan/sage/od color scheme wouldve worked better.

Yup, even the civilians blend better than we do

Hell, Gamma762 came up with a better color scheme with Photoshop and a couple of minutes.

Of course, StVF101 showed us that the current pattern does in fact blend sometimes.

Out of that group the Italian cammo is very effective looking...but lol the civy in Brown Pinstripes does blend in better than the ACU!

quick, someone send Gamma's corrected ACU pics to the relevant authorities...

Hopefully the OPFOR will be wearing NVGs in that case. To the naked eye in temperate terrain with even a little illumination at night they are painfully obvious.

When I was in ROTC the cadets wore BDUS while the instructor cadre were wearing ACU. We could always tell exactly where they were without any trouble. BDUs (if not faded) were only slightly darker than the surrounding terrain while the ACUs were almost luminescent.

No kidding, even with a new moon they could be spotted from quite a distance.

I guess I'd better hope that EVERY enemy has NVG's and ALL action takes place at night.

Universal my ass.

The UCP pattern is about the most ridiculous looking damn thing I have ever seen. Forcing Soldiers to wear that into combat is criminal lunacy. Sigh. At least the Marine Corps got it right.

Actually I think that MARPAT did not get it...right. Replace the Black in the Woodland pattern with Tan (a true tan, not the almost-white "tan" in UCP) and you would have a very good "Universal Cammo".
