Picked up some Winchester SP primers and a box of Berry's
115gr plated pills.  So what powders are you long time reloaders
using??

231

Power Pistol. It's all I have right now and I am getting great results in 9mm, 10mm, and .45 with it. Nice to just have one powder for everything!

true blue and then 231 (hp38) and the...unique (if you can believe that).

I'm not a long time reloader, but how about Ramshot Silhouette?

I shoot cast almost exclusively and I've had good results with WSF.

I just loaded my first 9mm last week using Titegroup and RMR 115s which are plated but use jacketed velocities.

True Blue would be my first recommendation then Titegroup.

out of a dillon ?

Titegroup meters very well from my dillon. It's my go to powder for 357, 45acp and 9mm.

True Blue is a double base powder and is spherical. It will meter like water.

Yup, 330 can do everything in 9mm, with all bullet weights, low or high velocity, accurately.

Current fave is Solo 1000. If N330 were $125 or less per 8 pounds I might use it, but I don't think it's as soft as Solo. Twenty years ago Unique was my fave.

Another +1 for W231 here. I'll have to give some true blue a try if I can find any sometime.

I use 3N38 for red hot 147gr FMJ loads, and it kicks a LOT of ass for this purpose.

For my day to day 124gr FMJ loads, its 231.

For factory level performance, theres about 8 billion powders that will work good for 9mm.

I started reloading using Power Pistol and it works great.
I chose Power Pistol because it has a wide margin between minimum and maximum charge weights and is a good powder for several calibers.
It's also large volume, so if I doubled up a charge, the case would overflow with powder.

I just bought some titegroup at the fun show last weekend to try out when I get brave enough.
It has a very narrow margin of error and a low charge weight but is loved by many, so I got some.

Call me weird.  I don't believe in having any ammo on hand that isn't hot enough for self defense.
In my most recent batches, I've been using Rem. 6 1/2 small rifle primers, just to get rid of 'em.
With the "Extreme" brand 124 gr. plated RN, I loaded 7.1 gr. of Blue Dot, for an average MV of 1,200 fps.
With the "extreme" 115 gr. plated HP, I use 6.9 gr. of HS-6 for an average MV of 1,350.
Both of these measured from my Glock 17L, with a 6" barrel.
No fouling and accurate

231, WSF are my choices for 9mm.  I have some Accurate #7, but haven't tried it, have only been using it in .357SIG.

Solo 1000 FTW!

As for metering:  Titegroup and Win 231/HP-38 (they are the same powder) will meter extremely well.

Really hot loads?  (don't know why you'd want to, but oh well):  HS-6, TrueBlue or Power Pistol

Universal is the most versatile clean powder if you need versatile.

V V powders are excellent & meter fine in a Dillon - but be ready for sticker shock.

Unique is smokey, tempt sensitive, filthy garbage. Avoid at all costs.

Not at all.  With 147 grain loads, its in the very top three or four powders for velocity.   Also, with the heavy bullets, the temperature differences are minimal.

As far as being dirty goes, who cares?   Dont you clean your guns after you shoot them?

How are you supposed to get through a 100+ round match with Unique gunking up the gun and making it jam all the time?  And how can you see the target through the smoke?

As for "top velocity" - BUNK!  Google "9mm Major" if you want to see the REAL powders for top velocity in 9mm (hint - Unique ain't there).

If you are strictly a "by the book" 9mm reloader, you can meet the 9mm Major power factor with Vihta Vouri 3n38 and 147s (it is a published load) but you can't come close to that with dirty old Unique.

Try some other powders to comapre against Unique.  You will thank me later.

This is one of the reasons I use Power Pistol for all of my pistols (9mm, .357, 45Auto).

It is a pretty crappy time for trying new things right now.

People I'm friends with can't find ammo... Ask me how I'm still shooting.  I tell them with components I bought in 2010.

Are there any Trap/Skeet ranges in your area?  They probably have pistol powder.  They think it is for shotgun reloading.  Maybe.  But most of it works great for pistol reloading.

"Universal Clays" is a clean, excellent "shotgun powder" you can generally use in most pistol calibers.

Be ready to buy 8 lbs though.  Shotgunners burn up a lot more powder than pistol shooters generally.

I used to use 231 on most of my pistol calibers but now I really like the temperature insensitive tite group
for practice and plinking. For full power loads I like power pistol and blue dot (blue dot is a little dirty !!)
231 is temperature sensative so in the coldest point of the winter seemed like the bullets had to
strugle to get to the target !!!!!!!
