The pander pump is 200 or less new at box stores and it takes 870 furniture. Lots of guys have enjoyed them for what they are... a 200 or less beater that goes bang.

A see a lot of Hawks in my travels, but I don't have any experience with one.  In addition to the 870, they make an 1897 clone as well.

The Hawk is OK.  other than it was not idealy smooth actioning when brand new, its been great.  Clean lube and shooting has made it smooth now.

It has decent sights and it feels solidly heavy - like you could use it as a club.  I'm not a fan of China making everything, but its a decent shotgun.

I still love my real 870 police but for $150 you can't go wrong

Think we're selling the Charles Daly Hawk H&R Pardner Pump, but I understand it doesn't take 870 bbls.  Managed to steer a customer from a Stevens to a Maverick the other night, solely for aftermarket parts availability.

The Hawk and the Pardner Pump are both made by Norinco in China. There is a 'hump' cosmetic difference in the top rear of the receiver (on the Pardner). I know Pardner had a design change several years ago and switched to the 870-style ejector from a flat ejector (which failed sometimes). I don't know if the Hawk followed this production change. I know 870 ejector springs are better. Remington 870's are better still. I'd rather have a used Remington 870 than a new clone. You can probably come out money ahead on a real one if you search Gunbroker a while.

Ok, it's the H&R Pardner Pump we sell.  I've picked up a Remington 870 @ a pawnshop for $200.  Who makes Charles Daly's pumps, and are they compatible?

I bought a brand new Hawk last year for the heck of it, it's VERY heavy, a 20" Mossberg 590A1 felt so much lighter! I've had trouble with shells sticking in the chamber after firing, I polished it some and still have some trouble occasionally, to be fair I'm shooting low brass loads but still. I need to get a little more aggressive with the polishing I guess. The trigger guard is poly, where older ones were steel, so that surprised me when I picked it up also. A little polishing on moving parts helped a BUNCH, it was incredibly stiff new.

Moral of the story: I thought from some guys reports online I was getting a rough 870 police equivalent with steel trigger group and no MIM parts, and GRS for $225 OTD, but I should have gone with the real deal. But they sell easy around here so no harm done.

Buying one of the Summit 870 Wingmaster PD trade-ins would be a better option than an 870 clone.

If one wants a light gun made in the US, the Maverick is close in price to the Hawk.  I have a Maverick I picked up at local Walmart for $175 and 25% off.  They also had the security models with extended mag for $219 and 25% off that price.  Black Firday sales.  They work well and I have no complaints about the maverick.  I ceramicoated the bolt black and it looks more like a 590 wanna-be.  for under $200 hard to beat.

At these prices I bought both the Hawk and a Mossberg.

Spend some time looking around - 870s can be found for $200. For the life of me, I can't understand why someone would want a clone when the real deal is available for the same price, maybe just me though.

Just asinine to not get a used 870.  I picked up a perfect condition older 1970's Wingmaster magnum for less than 200.  Chrome bolt and all.

I've had two of the Hawk 982s and did not have any issues with either. I recall seeing here or another forum, an individual took the bolt out of his 870, put it in his 982, and ran 200rds through it without issue. Did a DYI FDE Duracoat with Knoxx stock on one, and OD green stock and forend on the other. The Speedfeed forend was very tight fitting, sprayed a little Rem Oil on to get it to go. Just bought (I should say stole) a used HP9 for $130. I've never seen a Hawk that was blued before let alone a 3 digit serial number. Centerfire Systems has the 982 for $154.99 currently. If you get one, put some Loctite on the rear sight.
