If I ever decide to get an NFA toy, I'm leaning towards a SBR in 7.62x39 with suppressor. Question is, what kind of muzzle velocity can I expect to lose with, say, a 7.5" barrel as compared to a 20 inch SKS? And furthermore, would it even matter, seeing how 7.62x39 really doesn't rely much on velocity anyway.

My 8" ak pistol runs wolf at around 1800 fps over my chronograph. The 16" rifle was around 2300 IIRC.

Hmm. 7.5" might be a bit too short then. Might have to think about 10.5 to 12.5.

what type do you have? the noise through the ports at the front of the gas tube is typically pretty substantial, but all AK's don't have them...

I've got an 8" barrel 7.62x39 Krinkov and a 12" barrel XCR SBR. Both are awesome. I've also shot the XCR PDW Micro in 7.62x39 (7.5" barrel), too much flame, but fun. Most data I've seen for Yugo M92 Krinks (10" barrel) is ~2000 fps, I'm guessing my Krink is around 1900 fps from an 8" barrel.
