I'm customizing a 77/22 stainless synthetic I picked up in a trade for a great price. The rifle shoots good, but I want more. I'm looking to finish up with something that looks a little M40 or M24 ish.
I've bought s Clark .920 blue barrel (everything is going to be Duracoated when finished) the barrel should be here in a week, and I've also ordered a Weigand scope mount so I dont have to use Ruger rings.
The rifle came with the Ruger boat paddle synthetic stock. I spoke with a person at Clark Custom and they said I should be able to fit the barrel in the factory stock with sanding. I would like to use the factory stock to save some cash.
The question is does anyone know what epoxy resin/bondo/marine tex will adhere to the factory synthetic? I would like to fill in most of the forearm(currently hollow) and the rear sides of the stock (dished out). I made some inserts and textured the plastic stock inserts on the forearm and pistol grip but I'm not really satisfied. What I would really like is a stock that looks something like a McMillan A5, I've seen some at a reasonable price for 10/22 s but not the 77/22. I've considered a Microfit stock but that would meen buying bottom metal and increase the cost.
Thanks
