Does anyone have 6x45mm ballistics data? Is this cartridge in the AR platform worth the effort?

+ 1 for the Sierra data.

You will have to decide if it is worth the extra effort (which I see as zero). It is only a barrel change all other parts for the AR are the same. Remember when looking at load data that you are limited to 2.260" for mag length in most mags. Reloading is no different than for .223 Rem. the sizing die necks up to 6mm in one pass. Great selection of bullets in the 70 to 90 grain weights, but some bullet profiles do not lend to loading at mag length. I like the 6x45mm and for someone who reloads their ammo it is a great cartridge to work with.

hey J-A-R, havent see you in a while.

I have a 6x45 and like J-A-R said it just a barrel swap,
I load an 85 grn sierra game king at 2.260 using 24.5 H335 it puts me right at 2700fps from a 20" SS barrel.
If your interested in this cal, you should contact Dtech

The 85 grain Sierra GameKing is a excellent bullet for the 6x45, I also like the 70 gr. blitzking for about 3000 FPS . Thats good that you brought up Dtech he would be a good choice to have a upper built for this cartridge. Did he build yours if so what twist did you go with, both of mine are 1 in 8.

I have had three uppers in 6X45. Hodgden has had reloading data in the past. For deer I prefer Barnes X bullet or Nolser 85 grain partition. Powders I have used include BLC-2 and Winchester ball 741 or 748 I believe.

I believe the 6X45 shines with 70-85 grain bullets. Anything heavier is best served in the 243 platform.

my barrel is a 1/10 OLY SS heavy match contour, Dtech had the last SS 6x45 oly barrels that I could find

I'm currently switching over to nosler 85g partitions, as Dtech advised.

Nice rifle, I agree on the bullet weights once you go beyond 90 grains you give up to much powder volume in the case and velocity suffers for it. I have yet to hunt deer sized game, here in southern Michigan we are limited to varmints for center fire rifle. Powders that have worked well for me are H335 and H322.

When I started looking at the 6x45 I wanted to get a Oly 1 in 10 barrel but no luck finding one at the time so went with a WOA barrel. From what Dtech has said in the past the Nosler partition should work well on deer.

I had a barrel like that about ten years ago. I ordered it from OLY and it took about 6 months to get. Too damn heavy for me. I'm using a pencil barrel .625 at the gas block and used a free float tube. This barrel is made from an OLY blank.
