is the military 5.56 ammo more powerful than .223? also can civilian's get 5.56 ammo, and will they work in my bushmaster AR-15.

Yes 5.56 will work in your bushmaster.

The differnce I think you are talking about is just comercial ammo versus SS109. SS109 is a hevier bullet with a stell core so it has beter penetration proporties. There is no restrictions on SS109 because of some exemption due to a 'sporting purpose'.

Not correct.  I'm sure Troy had the info in his FAQ (see above).

However:
1) Military Ammo is loaded to higher velocities than civilian ammo with the same projectile weight.

2) Military 5.56 projectiles have a cannalure, not all civilian rounds have this feature.  Plus the other ammo features that help insure reliability like staked in primers and sealing the primers against moisture.

You can fire any ammo labeled "223 Remington" or "5.56x45"

YES!  Bushmaster uses the M16 chamber so it can safely shoot all 5.56 and .223 rounds.
