Does anyone have a really great load for target accuracy in terms of brand of bullet, type of powder and grains and type of primers? I would truly appreciate some guidence for reloding the 5.56/223. I have reloaded thousand of rounds of pistol but never reloaded any type of rifle ammo. A little help please.
BTW, it is a 1:8 twist, true 16" barrel.

My favorite load is 26.2 grains of Win 748. It produces good velocity and outstanding accuracy with a vast array of bullets. I use it predominantly with 55 gr FMJ's, 55 gr Rem PHP, Nosler 55 gr BT, and my all time favorite, the 60 gr Nosler BT. I typically use the Rem 7 1/2 small rifle BR primer, but also use the Winchester WSP's when I can get them. This load generally produces sub-MOA in all of its iterations, through just about ant rifle I've used it in.

Hope this helps.

24grn RL-15 or 24grn Varget or 23.2grn XBR-8208

LC case at 1.750

Wolf SRM primer or Remington 7.5

2.245 COAL

Typical Civilian Marksmanship Program / NRA Hipower competition load

eta: the course of fire is 200, 300 and 600 yards. About half the shooters do 77 for all stages (like me) and some do 80SMK for the 600 portion

I have the same barrel on one of my rifles. After playing around with 20+ different bullets, here is what worked the best for me:
(many worked great but by "best" I mean by only millimeters)

Hornady 60gr V-max
IMR 8208 XBR =23.1gr
CCI small rifle primers
LC brass
2.240" with a slight crimp

68gr HPBT
AA2230 =23.0gr
winchester primers
LC brass

77gr HPBT
IMR 8208 XBR =22.8gr
Winchester primers
Winchester brass
2.255" light crimp

Tested at 340 mtrs
18 deg.C

Also, 24.0 RE-15 for alternate powder to the above.
Magazine length.
(always work your way up to this level before jumping in too quickly, YMMV)
