Iv been shooting the 5.56 about 200rds with the new barrel with no issues.

With the Hornady tool the old barrel was .462 and have been sizing to .458/.459

Now with the new barrel Im getting .455 with fired brass!

I checked some AE.223 50gr factory loads and Im getting .457

Could this barrel/chamber be this tight or Im I missing something?

The last thing I want to have to do is pull down thousands of rounds and push the shoulder that far back.

Its a Rainier Arms/Rock creek barrel.

Love to get some input of what dimensions you guys are getting.

Any ideas or thoughts?

My PSA .308 barrel is really tight. From what I've found the fired brass comes out at SAMMI specs, or just a little bit under.

When I set up my sizing die, I found the brass fits below the low side of case gauge in order for it to feed properly in the rifle. The Winchester white box which is the only factory ammo this gun has seen, just happened to be shorter than spec.

So yeah, I believe that the chamber could be that tight. I almost wonder if maybe they did not ream it all the way.

If I ride the charge handle home its a no go.

If i drop the bolt its fine, but measures .456 after.

Next move?
Pull thousands or rounds?

Buy a new barrel that they chamber in?

I would contact the vendor/supplier to see if they are satisfied that it is within spec before pulling down thousands of rounds.

If it is within spec, I would probably seriously consider selling that barrel and buying a different one, though there are no guarantees that chambers will match up one way or the other.

Consider swapping bolts. The new barrel's bolt may shorten the headspace on your older barrel and the old bolt will probably lengthen the headspace on your new barrel. They'll meet somewhere in the middle.

Im using the old bolt, but may try another.

It seams to shoot fine.

Guess someone who dont reload would never have noticed.

What bothers me is its reading .002 shorter than factory loads.

The other thing is the vendor never answers the phone.

Im calling them now..

My .308 is like that, It's going to have it's own brass.

Usually with my other semi auto's it's just one size fit's all, but not this gun. I don't like it, but it is what it is.

Its not right..

To size the brass corectly I would have to machine off the end of the sizing die.

Anyone have a Hornady comp tool and a set of "go/no go gauges" that could measure them for me?

Im sitting on hundreds of rounds of Barnes TTSX and a barrel swap AGAIN would be cheaper than starting over.

5.56 Go gauge is about the only way you are going to know anything definitive.

Barring that if you want to do it country style you need to remove the ejector plunger, place the rim of the cartridge under the extractor, and then see if it will go into battery with light pressure.

Do you mean 1.4XX, your headspace measurements?  What is .4XX?

SAAMI spec for the cartridge is:  1.4596" to 1.4666"
SAAMI spec for the chamber is:  1.4636" to 1.4736"

If your chamber really is 1.455", it is out of spec.  Return it to the supplier for a remedy/repair.

You could always resize the body without disassembling the rounds by using a body-only die.  Even then, your rifle is out of spec and always will be.  Get it fixed.

Thank you!

Not sure how the shoulder on the brass would get pushed back so far without it being messed up.

I have called and emailed them with no responce

Only took a month last time....
Last barrel the extention came loose and they replaced the barrel

Cant measure headspace with the Hornady tool. You are really only trying to get a relative change of a fired case to a sized case.
