Ok, you guys win after investigating lever action rifles I have determined my next gun will be a lever action.  This gun will be my big bore (hog gun) and I am leaning toward the 45/70 and probably a Marlin.  I plan to put a 2x7 scope and will be shooting 100-200 yards max.  Will I lose much accuracy with the 18.5" barrel over a 20"? I like the Marlin Guide Guns especially because the hold 6 rounds instead of 4 like the other Marlins.  I am also considering a Marlin 1895 and cutting the 22" barrel down to a 20".  Any info or suggestions would help.

Get you a GBL. They are available at a reasonable cost and will do what you want.
I own an 1895 ABL and love it.

NIce, I love that Marlin.  I just think a 16" barel with a scope might look goofy.  I could be wrong if you have a picture of it with a scope I would like to see it.

Barrel length doesn't determine accuracy.

It looks fine with a scope. I ran a 1.5-5 Leupold on it for a while. I prefer the wild west sights and the modifies XS rail to a scop. I may end up running a small red dot. T1 maybe or aimpont in really low rings

Barrel length doesn't affect accuracy.  What you lose form a shorter barrel is velocity.

If you are using iron sights, you also get a shorter sight radius, which affects your ability to aim accurately, which is why many people believe a shorter barrel = less accuracy.  It doesn't make the rifle less accurate, but it may make the shooter less accurate.

A factory marlin 18" barreled rifle that is actually really nice, the only issue is finding one, then checking it over for quality. Since the CT plant closed and the lever guns reopened in KY its hit or miss if your actually gonna find a "good" one. I looked at few till I found mine. I personally like 18" since its not too short, easy to maneuver in the field, just compact enough... they are really great.

Is the 2nd one down

Nice guns the second one down is probably the one I will get.  I realy like the stainless but can't justify the extra money for it.  What quality issues should I look for asthetics, function ?

I seen the following
Loose screws- easy to fix but sucks to know that they came that way.
Screws overtightened- one was badly buggered up from the box I watch them cut open.
Stock/ forearm fitament- one had a lose stock, many had BAD gaps and even had some sort of filler paste stuff crammed in it.
Loose mag tube- dont even know what to say about htis, but the entire mag tube wiggled in the forearm/ bracket.

Sad to know that this is occuring, sadder to know that a piece of American history had to close its doors and lay off skilled workers in a time of an already tight and depressed ecomony.

The GBL is really nice. I have a few things on order for it and the other 1895. Now I just need to get back stateside to enjoy them 3.5 months to go in Iraq. I am sure you will be VERY happy with your purchase, but please take heed and really look it over before purchase.

First, thanks for your service.  Second thanks for the advise I will probably shop around local stores so I can look them over before my purchase.  May cost a bit more to buy local but probably worth it.

I have had my Marlin 1895 with the standard 22" barrel for years and have taken several Texas hogs with it. I topped it off with a Tasco 3x9 scope. I recently had the barrel cut down to 18" to make it easier to pack around. I plan on swapping out the Tasco scope for either a Leupold or or Redfield 2x7 scope mounted on an XS Lever Rail with a set of Leupold QD rings....

Thankfully, no! But that is why I want to swap out the scope for one with more eye relief....!
