Pistol, std weights  is 165 and 180gr

Minimal price difference between the 2, stick to std loads and run with it..

Most typical loads are 165 and 180gr TC.

I enjoy the 180gr TC.

Make mine 180gr

with a fast powder, like titegroup, WST, win231, etc.

Agree.. key for 40 "plinking" loads is a faster powder (although I have never consider 231 that fast but it's all relative). I made a mistake and used Longshot in my last batch... I can't handle more than a handful in my Glock 23. Just too much power and recoil in that light gun.

I have tried 135's, 155's, 180's and 200's. I prefer using and shooting the heavier bullets. The muzzle blast and flash created by the higher powder charges in the 135/155 grain loads is something I can do without.

Moderate loads work best for me. My 200 grain loads run around 850 fps, the 180 grain loads around 925 fps. Accurate, reliable and pleasant to shoot.

If you try the lighter bullets go with powder charges close to the starting loads, not mid-range or full power.

180 are where it is at. 4 grains of titegroup will give good function and reliability with lead.

180s all the way (except if I'm shooting 200s).  Never go lighter than 180.

I used to load blue dot under 135 grain Nosler JHP for something akin to a home rolled Corbon load.  Whoooooo, the flash and report were something intense!

I've been finding bulk boxes of 40 180 plateds more frequently than 155 or 165 grainers.  Therefore, 180 is a natural.  For plinking and everyday farting around, I usually load them over fairly fast powder.  Lately I've been using Titegroup, but Ive had good success with old unique and W231 as well.  I've not loading for max power. Just a reasonable, cost effective plinker load.

I load mostly 180grn but also have some 165grn I use in both 40s&w and 10mm, however, if you're just talking about plinking loads and you're looking for cheap handloads, look to lighter, plated or coated lead bullets in the 140-155grn range and use TiteGroup powder for light to mid range loads.  TiteGroup is spikey at the top end so for full power loads try Power Pistol.
