One of these days I'm going to take one of my Mausers out, set up a steel plate (a BIG one) at 2000 meters, set the sights, and see how close I can actually to come to hitting anything.

i like your thinking!
i used to do it at 500m with my Turk. it was a ram gong. that was a good feeling to hear the clang with suplus ammo and stock open sights. a range not too far away from me has 1000yds, so i may give it a shot come spring. not too many 2000yd capable ranges out there. maybe some BLM land out west. advntrjnky
