I have been racking my brains trying to figure why every few casings are coming out like this?

One thing is, when I start to size the suspect cases, It feels like something is catching right after it goes into the die chamber. I thought maybe they were catching on the edge, so I tried guiding each case by hand, and it made no difference. Every 4th 5th case seems to end up this way

These where all fired out of my S&W Model 610 revolver.

- I have checked the length, and they are not over length.
- I have looked for burs in them, and there are no burs.
- I looked inside, and cleaned the size die, wich is a Redding Titanium Carbide die set.
- I made sure the die is set properly too.
- When I check the creased one's in my case guage, they fit perfict, just like the non creased one's do.

The one on the top with the strange crease in it is the problem child, and I added a normal one on the bottom to compare

Oh yeah

I should of mentioned it's old RCBS Rock Chucker.

This hasn't hapened with my 44, or 45 caseings on this same press, but I should mention that it does seem like the die is a little out of alignment with the shellholder.

Thanks for replying.

Kind of sounds like every once in awhile, a case is slipping somewhat out of the shell holder on the upstroke and causing an alignment problem.

Watch what happens with the case in the shellholder as the ram is raised for the case to enter the die. Does the case go all the way into the shell holder and stay there as the ram is raised?

I keep my finger on the case on the upstroke, only mashed it once in many years of handloading.

Thats what I am hopeing too. I think 'll try holding my finger right up against the bottom of the case as it goes in, and see if this does the trick.
I was thinking of getting a newer press, anyway, in the near future because of this.

Thanks again Danny

Danny!!!!

I owe you a few beers!!!!!

Just went to the press, and sized 35 cases in a row without a hitch!!  Should of had the problem by now I think

I put my finger right at the base of the shell holder where the slot is to slide the shell into, and hold it there on the case rim untill the last second of the press stroke.

Thanks again. Keeping my fingers crossed!!
