I'm shopping for another upper, and I know the 10.5" vs 14.5" are "apples vs oranges" but I want one of these. What's the better choice? Keep in mind that I have several 16" uppers, 7.5" & 11.5" AR Pistols, and a 11.5" upper for my SBR. I'm leaning towards the 14.5, but is there much difference vs my 16" Carbines. All my uppers are 5.56 / .223. Looking for input and advice. Maybe go for a 300 Blk Out or another caliber like the 300 that will still utilize my 556 mags?

10.5

I have two 10.5s and have had 14.5s before.

What is the intended purpose of this rifle?
Really once you answer that question, you'll know which to go with.

While there is a difference in handling between the 14.5inch barrels and the 16 inch barrels(didn't believe it till I had them side by side), its not worth $200.

If you are going to SBR, go short.

I went with 11.5", but it's hard to argue with this.     You can get a 14.5" with a slightly longer flash hider and not have to dick with the stamp.

10.5 Make it worth it. 14.5 is too close to 16 IMO.

The $200 has already been spent, so this is just going to be "another" upper. I had an idea that the 14.5 wouldn't be much different than the 16's. I might be better off looking into other calibers from the input so far.  thanks for the respone.

Oooooh in that case I'd do a 7.5 in 6.8

I wouldn't mind a 14.5" just to have a true military upper if I had extra money.

A 7.5" barrel with a flash enhancer sounds like fun too

I actually been thinking about picking up a longer upper also. Someone told me that a Mid-length 14.5" is a very smooth shooting upper.
Although I'll probably just hold off & pick up a cheap carbine length 14.5" at Knob Creek in the fall

I'd go with the Noveske.

If you reload 300BLK is a great cartridge, otherwise $$$.  So is 6.8––-jump into the 7.62x39 bandwagon and pickup a few ASC mags from AIM and sling 123gr pills at 2100fps for $0.19/rd.  Yes I'm refering to Yugoslav M67 but cleaning the gun afterwards isn't difficult.  I've run about 1k thru my 10.5 and have no probs whatsoever.  Just try to find a barrel with a profile of around .700 behind the gas block and put a lightweight forearm over it––-I love the Troy Ext/Vtacs alot and seem to be building more uppers with them than any other now.

SBR  under 10inches = 6.8

Or, if you have a suppressor..........  300BLK

Only new part needed to go from 5.56 to 300 blackout is new barrel right? Same bolt & mags?

Yep.  Well, you need new bullets too

Built a 10.5 with an LMT upper, then got an itch and built a 14.5 Colt SOCOM to go with my "spare" lower.
Build both!

THERE IS ONLY ONE CORRECT ANSWER

GET BOTH

get both?

10.5" is a "real" SBR IMO, but I do have a 14.5" for general purpose work.  I mean, the receiver is registered, why not?

Yup in this case I'd definitely go with the "get both" answer. I have a 14.5" simply for the sake of having a truer M4 clone. I'm in the paperwork process of getting a shorter barrel (going 11.5") but was looking hard at a Noveske 10.5" too.

7.5" 6.8 SPC's ROCK................................

MadDog

ETA: My Noveske Diplomat in 6.8 SPC along with it's bigger and little brothers.  The Pmag is only in it so it balances for the picture.  It loves Barrett 30 rounders (long mags).
