Quoted: If you buy a 10/22 in 22 long rifle can you buy a 22 magnum barrel and interchange them on the same action? If I'm not mistaken, they have different actions. The mag action is stretched a bit to accommodate the longer magazines. |

22 Magnum receiver is steel not aluminum and the bolt weighs about 3x more. Not interchangeable at all.

Thanks I have to choose one or the other. I'm leaning to the magnum as I have a 22 convertion for the ar.

I think manufacture of Ruger 10/22 magnums was halted a few years ago. You might be able to find a used one though or try to find a Remington 597 magnum. http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/rimfire_rifles/model_597/model_597_magnum.asp
