I'm kicking myself for not saving some data from .458socomforums.com now that it is down. I was wondering if a thread could be started here. just data, no long dialogues.

I saved a lot of the data from the 300 and 405 grain "bulk bullets" from midway. I'll post when I get home.

Cold mentioned in the AR variants section that they're switching to a new style/server or something to take care of the problems but it will take a while. I'm not sure how long a while is, but normally with IT and internet stuff its a priority and a while is only a few days. So I'm hoping that maybe by the weekend it'll be back up.

Do an advanced search on google looking just on the site: 458socomforums.com and click on the cached data and you will be able see past topics.

in addition to the charts posted above here are three loads I saved from various threads at 458socomforums.com

Oh Boy..........I think I found my go to load. 1 big hole at 25yd. to get a zero.
100yds.2in. using a holosight.I loaded...
40.0grs. H4198,
2.158 oal.
Hornady.458FTX 325 grain
.

I'm loading the Remington 405gr bullets seated so that the cannelure aligns with the case mouth.
My COL is just under 2.18". The case I just miked was at 2.175".
They are charged with 35gr RL-7 and cycle fine with no signs of excess pressure.
I have fired that load through the same brass about 4 times so far.

Hornady 300gr JHP
34.5 gr H110
CCI 350 pr
2.005 oal
group size.770" @100yds.

According to Dave Fortier's reloading data with Lil Gun:

405 Remy fp
29 grains
2.080 oal

300 Remy jhp
35 grains
2.020 oal

300 Barnes X
33 grains
2.260 oal

If you have the ability to compare the case volume under the bullet of any of these three to the FTX load, this should give you a place to start. Depending on your oal, I would start around 30 grains and work up.

loading 32gr of WW296 with an oal of 2.200. Velocity is around 1850 fps if I remember correctly with no pressure signs and 100% weapon function. This is with a 17" barrel. Groups are running 1.5" at 100 yds. These loads work for ME in MY weapon. Use at your own risk.

average velocity of 1764fps with 40gr of Re-7 with the 325gr FTX .05 off the lands, using Remington 2 1/2 primers.

Here is a load I worked up for my 16" RRA upper.

Barnes .458 SOCOM TAC-X bullets
H110 31.3 grains
Stareline brass
CCI 350 primers

Nice pics.

lol i was gonna post some of my data but it looks like I got beat to it.

I can still contribute a bit I suppose..

458 SOCOM
300gr Remington JHP
Remington 2½ Large Pistol Primers
41.5gr Reloder-7
OAL: 2.08"

Cycles, no high pressure signs, velocities were above 1760fps

Reloder-7 seems to yield lower velocities when compared to other powders, but it does allow for a complete case fill.

458 SOCOM
500gr Hornady DGS
Remington 2½ Large Pistol Primers
23.7gr-26gr Reloder-7
OAL: 2.250"

23.7gr charge has very light recoil but still cycles. 26gr felt more stout but did not produce any high pressure signs. I suspect velocity is just under the supersonic threshhold for the 23.7gr charge and a bit faster than 1200fps for the 26gr charge.
Link Posted: 10/17/2009 4:33:09 AM EDT
[#14]
36.5 grains of W296
WLP primer
Remington 300 grain JHP
Hornady dies with Lee factory crimp (light to medium crimp)
2020 fps from 16" TJ upper
