I came across this article doing a lil research and thought it was pretty slick.
I've always wanted to build a 6.5x54R competition rifle. I bet exterior ballistics would be very impressive....this one was at the 1976 Winter Games back when center-fire rifles were still used. The Dutch used a 6.5x54 cartridge and dies are available. I'd go the 6.5x55 Swede route, but it could be an interesting project.

I've got a few U-fix-Ms hungarian Mosins from century a while back just waiting for x54r projects. i would love to build a 6.5 and 9.3 x54r on my spare actions.....after your article a few years back on the Finnish sniper competition that had the 300win mag mosin precision rifle, I've wanted to build on my spare actions.

The Russian competition loads featured a 160 grain FMJ Match bullet at approx 2600 fps. Load was fairly mild. reamers and dies are available if you do your homework. |

That reminds me a lot of the 6.5 BRM from E. Arthur Brown.
A rebarrel to that 6.5x54R would give new purpose to some old Mosins with sewer pipe bores. |

Yes, exterior ballistics on it should be very impressive.
I spoke to a Lapua engineer and he said a 6.5x54R in a modern rifle would drive a 139 grain Lapua Scenar at 3,000+ fps........ that is smoking......... |
