Just curious to why wmd using a matte finish at a higher price point than their polished finish. Any benefit to a matte finish or just a different look?

I honestly don't know.  My WMD is a matte finish, I guess, not high gloss.  That is personal preference.  I did not want it to look like a mirror.

It is holding up well so far.  I'm at only about 1700 rounds or so.  Only time will tell.  Some are reporting heavy staining, but I'm obviously not seeing it.  I do think that using a little lube with strong carbon detergent additives helps fight that.  I use Shell Rotella T-6 motor oil.  It is a full synthetic designed for turbo diesel engines, which run very rich and are prone to carbon deposits, like our rifles.

matte finish does not reflect as a polished finish does.

but I checked their website, I didn't see a like for like matte BCG that cost more than a polished BCG.

that is a polished bcg from WMD... (matte looks like it's painted silver)

that picture is so rough that we cant tell if you did it by shooting, or dipped it in maple syrup.

did it clean up afterwards? (or are you saying that you damaged it)

I saw them on primary arm's website. The bcg with matte finish is priced higher.

I have 5k rounds through mine now and I have had one time it kind of changed to a dirty look... I buffed it with a scotch brite pad and its back to pretty. I called WMD prior and asked them if there was anything not to do to the NIBX the only thing they said not to use was a sonic cleaner..

I love mine and I will keep buying them from WMD.

Matte is a rougher texture. If it was smooth it would have a polished look. Matte / flat finsih will hold lube better.

I have two, one polished and one that is NibX with cerakote finish (ODgreen).

I haven't had a problem with either of them.

I see the photo now on WMD's website.  Yes, mine in polished.  Matt is actually gray color.   I do not think the "polished" one is a shiny as either chrome or the nickel-boron one from Fail Zero.

I could not comment on whether the matte finish would hold lube better.  I would argue that if so,  it might hold carbon better, too.  I simply do not know.  All I can say is that mine is holding up well, and that the prices for either one are the same on WMD's site, although full auto is out of stock for both at the moment, but the semi-auto version is available.

Are you saying you put cerakote over the NIB?  Or that WMD did?  That would defeat the purpose of the nickel-boron lubricity and hardness and interfere with tolerance clearances, would it not?

Could you show us a photo of that, please?

Having both those finishes on a BCG will change the tolerance..  Nibx alone does that.

I am not sure how long that mix will last.. I work with NIBX parts a ton, the NIBX will last for sure but that cera is gonna come off . After NIBX is applied it does not like anything normally applied over it.

it was purchased from WMD that way.

As I said there have been no issues running these bolts in either of their host weapons..  (interfere with tolerances on a BCG? really? we're talking about mils here)

www.wmdguns.com

yes, the cerakote will wear off (quicker than typical, due to the NIBX and improper preparation on the first surfaces)... it will stay on the non high wear areas of the bcg, when it's gone, the nibx will perform as with other nibx bolts.

The good thing about Phosphate BCGs is that they are always matte and have a great price.
