don't flame me for this, i'm jsut curious. it seems that one site would be plenty to be on target, but i see many AR owners with more than one site on their firearm, plus the irons.

what's the point?

The point of co-wintessing is to always have an aiming device. Remember the golden rule, one is none and two is one. So WHEN your optics batteries die, it falls off or just breaks, you will be able to transition to your irons in a flash and continue with the fight...

Grant is absolutely right. Co-witness give yoiu insurance against your red dot sight.

I always find transition to your pistol the best back up. I sometimes just use the optic window as a sight aparture to make a shot up to 25m. I hardly never use my BUIS but it is nice to have just in case.

Perhaps the best argument for having an optic and irons cowitnessing is the KISS principle. You shoulder the weapon and sight it in the same way, every time. There is no need to change your shooting position/grip/stance to transition from irons to the optic, it is all together. That is why so many cowitness.
