looking for a good battery powered scope in those listed mags, preferebly one that wont wash out against light backgrounds? maybe $300-$800 range? Will be going on a longer-range gun than my current one, preferably out to 300-400 yards.

Most will not be nearly as bright as the trijicon with the fiber optic...even the trijicon are basically black during the day if you cover up the fiber optic tube.

That being said, given your description, I would start with the Nightforce scopes...although a few dollars may have to be added to the mix.

I got a NSX from MTSN about a month ago. I had heard complaints of the lit reticle not being bright enough, but from what I have seen that has not been a problem. I would wait until the 1-4 are on the market. But they are a little more than you want to spend. You may want to take a look at the Leupold VXIII 1.5-5 with the circle dot (Not the MR/T). They run around $550. I tried one the other day on a buddies M1A and liked it, I just wish Leupold's illumination controls were better.

Dont listen to the NF and S&B reccomendations they are out of your price range. For 1-4X look at the Horus Talon and Meopta Meostar. For higher magnifications you need more criteria as there are too many choices. What weight/objective size is ok, do you want adjustable focus, etc. Need more info to make reccomendations.

i dont really like adjustable focus, as it is just one more thing to mess with i am new to the scope world and dont really know what objective size i would need. It is basically just going to go on a longer-range target fun for shooting at the range. I know I do not need the best scope because Im not really shooting at live targets but, I dont like to spend my money on things that are sub-par.
