When you drill for your muzzle brake or flash suppressor, what do you use as a pin to put in there? is there some material that has to be used? I have heard of a few people who used coat hangers but not sure if thats ok.... Just looking because I wanted to try it for a little learning experience for a future build

i used a cut off piece of the drill bit that made the hole.
its gotta be tough enough that a fed can't spin it off with a giant wrench, if it comes down to it.
i've heard  stories (old wive's tales and internet exaggeration i'm sure) about pipe wrenches and destruction aplenty

I buy barrel extension index pins in boxes of 100.......plunge cut the hole with a 1/8 endmill tap in the pin.....and then just hit a puddle with the tig on top....they are 1/8 x 3/16

Same here. I use dowel pins and it leaves a nice weld. Much cleaner than using filler rod over a shorter pin.

MSC has 1/8 carbide 4 flute endmills as does wholesale tool.......I source the dowell pins locally yo get the price down...but I have to buy a BUNCH so any of the parts places like Del-Ton list the index pins in the small barrel parts section....as does brownells.

BUT...to use a 4 flute endmill...you'll need a milling machine....NOT a drill press or a hand drill......so you can support the rool correctly and NOT drill through into the bore of the barrel....LOL...honestly If you aren't a machinist.....or have a well equiped home shop.....send it to a pro......

I agree.  I can always point to expert installation in the case of any BS.
