It seems like a nice system but I would have to spend a LOT of money just to get it so it will have the same options I now have on my pre-ban AR. I still feel that AR's are more ergonomic and vesatile. I guess if you have the money and you don't mind all the mods you have to do go for it! More guns is always a good thing![:D]

I had one. I was an very well made rifle and it shot beautifully. But there were just too many drawbacks I didn't like. 1. Cost too much to upgrade. 2. 10 round mags that are hard to load. 3. The thumbhole stock really sucked. 4. Too heavy for me. 5. It's a great rifle that has been neutered by PC BS. I sold mine and never looked back.

I saw a guy at Thunder Ranch who completely redressed his SL-8 with G36 furniture and Ar mag conversion, and a SIR. I must say it looked way cool. Must have been mondo expensive, but he clearly had the cash to burn. He said he really did it as a reaction to a local assault weapon law (I want to say he was from colorado, con't be sure). As a result of the SL-8 and the M14 being left off the list, he had gravitated to those systems.

I like my SL36, but I would not trust my life to a converted gun. It is just a cool toy. If anything remotely serious pops up, the M4 is what I would use. I got the gun before they banned everything in Kalifornia, 1500.00 The KAC RAS is 270.00 The Special Weapons AR mag conversion which also includes a new bolt and gas piston is 275.00 The Special Weapons G36 stock conversion is 275.00, I got two. The HK C stock which shorten the pull was 100.00 and the HK factory short rail with build in sights was 120.00 Aimpoint with ARMS mount free, it was already in stock. LarryG36 converted the barrel to the same spec as the HK G36 CQB deminsion, that was about 200. Shoots reliably but will have a hiccup once in awhile. Chen

I love mine for casual plinking. Very smooth action. Much smoother than an AR, IMO.

Jimbo, My SL36 has a smoother trigger then a facter M16 trigger, but not as crisp as my Accuracy Speak trigger. the gun does shoot pretty smooth but it is not that much different then my M4, although a FA M4 will generally shoot faster then a G36. It is not a bad gun but my M4 is still my primary.

Nice, very nice conversion. I think nowadays you can find any real HK G36 parts to dress up the SL-8 very easily.

Mag conversions on the SL-8 that i have seen lack the push button mag release. Does yours have this? is it an option now for converted SL-8's? This would probably be my biggest turn off on a converted work. The UMP does not have a push-button mag release as far as i can tell from pictures, but the SW Grease gun mag conversion for the USC has one that i thought was actually cool. It was easy to reach like on the AR-15, but i had'nt seen this on the SL-8. ...well...hopefully HK will eventually do the RIGHT thing and produce G36 uppers (without the built-in optic BS) for AR-15's here in the US. I know i'd buy one. Even more so if it was in 6.8x43mm. I'd have to laugh. A Colt/HK rifle. [:D]
