What ammo is ideal  for defensive purposes on my Bush A2 upper with an 11.5 inches 1-9 twist barrel?
will I still be xpecting acceptable ballistic performance at 100 yards?

There is an EXCELLENT thread on this very topic in the Ammo Forum written by Troy.  It covers this specific subject as well.  

If you truly want to know what the BEST round is w/o the hype and marketing BS go read Troy's thread.
