I have some of this ammo made in Israel. It looks better than the 5.56. It has a sealent on the primer and the winchester 5.56 does not. Does 30 or 40 feet per second more for the 5.56 really make a difference? The bullet looks the same and I can buy it for less than $8 for 40 rounds at Walmart.

Does anyone know if the bullet is the same? Do I really need winchester 5.56? or I am getting better ammo from the 223 as proved by the sealant on the primer.

The WWB from Walmart works fine. Have fun.

guy at a the funshow told me the "A" meant it was made in Israel and that they are not part of  NATO
then again this was the same guy trying to sell me some Q3131, is he full of it?

Look at the box:

.223

5x56

The velocities are differnt, I think the bullets are too...

One is great to plink with or for zombies

The other is good for 2-legged predators or MZB's

No, he is correct. Q3131A is Winchester M193 spec ammo made in Isreal. Q3131 is Winchester M193 spec ammo made in the USA. In theory, they should be the same load. However, I have found Q3131A to be a bit more reliable.

You will also see XM193 which is M193 spec ammo made my Federal in the USA.

The big three: Q3131, Q3131A and XM193. These are new factory loaded M193 spec ammo for civilian consumption. They are not surplus ammo.

ETA: I don't know if Isreal is part of Nato, but they are a supplier of NATO spec ammo to the USA.

Q3131 = 5.56 made in USA by Winchester
Q3131A = 5.56 made in Israel by IMI
Both are M193-spec velocity, "NATO pressure", crimped primer, and sealed.  Headstamps are "WCC" and year, annealing discoloration is visible on the brass.   Q3131 is in 20-round boxes with cardboard dividers.  Q3131A is in 20-round boxes with no dividers.   The bullets are not exactly the same between the two, but Winchester reps claim they're "the same spec".

USA223R1 is .223, "SAAMI pressure" and slower.  The 40-round boxes I've bought at Wal-Mart were made in Israel and had primer sealant but didn't appear to have a primer crimp.  Headstamps were "Winchester" and the annealing discoloration was polished out.  Bullets appear to be the same as the Q3131A.

The USA223R1 averaged about 2950fps out of my 16" RRA.  The Q3131A was more like 3150fps in the same gun.  Accuracy was a little under 1.5" @ 100yds for the .223s and a little over 1.5" @ 100yds for the 5.56mm.
