I have an A-1 upper and would like to mount an eotech or aimpoint above the handguards. I would like to leave the rear handle site open as to permit better sighting (not boxed in). So I would like to find a mount that will connect to the front of the carry handle and front sight post but not extend to the top of the carry handle. Anyone know if this exists??

Thanks all,
Mortis...

Try this thread, http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=176272&w=searchPop it pretty well covers your question. Mike added: here's and oldie but goodie on the Aimpoint vs EOTech issue, BTW I own both. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=151311&w=activePop

Mortis, There is no mount like the one you want. Really your only choice is to get one of the free float tubes that will work with your settup. All the ones that I'm aware of that work with the fixed handle will require you to remove the front sight assembly for installation. Personally I wouldn't worrby about the mounts 'boxing in' your sight picture. They work well - and the sight will only be used as a backup in any event. Your best bets are the ARMS#39 for the Aimpoint or the PRI for the EOTech.

mortismaker; I have an A2 with the ARMS 39 and Aimpoint. It will affect your iron sight zero when mounted, but just re-zero once and you are fine. It does not get in the way much at all.
