has anyone shot any of Winchesters new q3131 ammo? I was wondering if it was as hot as xm193 or more like IMI q3131a.
I have been hearing "rumors" about the new Q3131 and would also like to know. Where would be the best place to find it?

I've seen it at the Austin Academy stores @ $4.39/box.
It's marked WCC 05, with the circle - "+", so it's M193 spec, or at least, supposed to be. Too bad they didn't keep the price at $3.99. |

OH SNAP!
This shit should IMMEDIATELY BE PULLED FROM CIVILIAN AVAILABILITY! AND BANNED! |
SHUT UP!!! |
You sir, are teh shit! |
Bass Pro Shop in Harrisburg Pa is now stocking Q3131 at 4.39 per box. The dates were all 04.
Anybody know if this is commercial manufacture or is it still a surplus-type ammo? It would be nice if it was a commercial process, because that would imply a steady supply past the gov't need. "For Civilian Use Only"
Brass is probably overrun stuff from Olin's ammo contract for DOD. Sounds like the same thing that happened with Federal....the new FAE is boxed just like the XM193, some of the early product was loaded in LC brass, and the powder recipe appears to have been modified.
It's true DANG IT! Do you really want a bunch of unchecked civilians roaming the streets with this kind of FIRE POWER in their 30 round CLIPS? HECK NO! |
now to wait until the next fall hunting sale! 2.99/box |
Got a stock number? |

I found some yesterday at the Academy in OKC.
Q3131 Edit-checked my receipt |
I for one am glad this stuff is back! Q3131 was always the best M-193 ammo IMHO. I see that Winchester used M855 brass. I see a NATO cross on them.
I just received a case today from Impact Guns, had ordered Q3131A but got the Q3131 instead, primers are sealed and all brass is '04 and '05 with some '03's but only a very few have the NATO stamp hyThe necks are crimped, all in all looks to be ok, guess I'll put these in bandos and store them for shtf.
Lot # is WH03 |
All of the boxes of Q3131 I bought yesterday are from lot "WK31".
All of my boxes of Q3131A that I have are lot "WB30". About half of my WalMart .223 REM (the 40 rd value packs) is lot "WF61". The other half of my WalMart .223 is "WE03". And for shits and giggles, the 9mm I have is lot "WF82". |
i have a chrono. someone send me some and i will shoot it from a 16,20 and 24 inch barrels.
YEAH!!! Ban it!!! Pull it ALL off the shelves and send it to me IMMEDIATELY!!!! |
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Yeah, what DigDug said. |
I just picked up a couple boxes at the Harrisburg Bass Pro Shop.
They have crimped and sealed primers and there is sealant on the projectile. I'll shoot some across my chronograph and report back with the data. May be a couple days though. |
I'm suprised at the Harrisburg representation on here and in this thread.
Unchecked civilians don't know the difference. Only those learned in the finer points of military ammo know, and we are the guardians of freedom! So, send me ALL the Q3131 and I will make sure it gets used properly! Right Jaltered and Henry455? |
Oh snap! I didn't know we had a real live guardian of freedom here! |
Same price at Academy in DFW. Most headstamps are '05, along with the Nato stamp. But some are '04 headstamp with no Nato stamp. |

Here ya go.......
Bushy 14.5", 1/9 twist. String 1 10 shots Low 3000 High 3116 Avg 3057 ES 116 SD 37 String 2 10 shots Low 3015 High 3139 Avg 3064 ES 124 SD 41 Comparing this data with the FRAG CHART, it would appear that this new Q3131 ammo is loaded to M193 specifications. Sealed and crimped primers, sealed and crimped projectiles, loaded to M193 specs, looks like Winchester deserves a pat on the back for this one. |
Oh snap! 3057+ out of a 14.5?
Sound like the Real deal. Not bad for Tier 2, Grade 87, floor sweepings! |
Well crap. Now I have to go buy 10000 rounds of it. |
yeah, me to. |
And I thought the Cincy Bass Pro was crazy charging $4.49/box. Either way, I'll just get some from the next show. |

Is there any difference between Q3131 and Q3131a other than IMI makes Q3131a?
As far as velocity goes, no. I don't know if they used a flash retardant on the QA loads, or if they use one on the new Q loads. The bullet may or may not be the same, but one would have to assume they would use the same tip. That's info you would have to get direct from Winchester. The brass on the Q3131A loads is marked W.C.C. 04. Note the dots between the letters. The brass on the Q3131 loads is marked WCC 04 with the Nato cross. Note lack of dots. Somebody had said that they are using the M855 brass for the new Q3131 loads. I can't verify this as I have no Win M855 loads on hand. Both cases are annealed, and are clean and shiny. |
fyi all my 04 seem to have the NATO cross. ar-jedi ps: rest of pics are in this thread: ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=253863 |

Looks just like the rounds in the case that I just got, mine has a few '03's mixed in also, you can tell on about 50% of the rounds that the primers are sealed, others you can't, some even have sort of a powdery coating, maybe where the sealent got rubbed off from shipping, I don't know. Maybe 2 rounds per box are nato stamped brass. I'm gonna go out Sunday and throw some down range to see how it shoots before I bando the rest and seal it up for storage. |

Mine is all lot #WH03 |
