got a few emails. here's how i done it.

first, the obvious questions:
why on earth would you want to piggy-back a red dot on an acog when the ta31 is available?
-some folks can't use or don't like the b.a.c.
-utilizing the b.a.c. feature does shift your point of aim slightly.
-two sights allow two different zeros.
-in my case, i prefer the precision reticle of the ta01.
-a happy coincidence is that the higher dot sight allows for a more upright head posture, and thus greater pereferal vision at indoor ranges.

why a ta01 and not a ta01-nsn?
-in my case, i already had a ta01.
-ta01 is less costly and more available.
-no wasted tritium front iron sight.
-forward mounting the dot sight keeps the sharp edges away from your eye and forehead, and allows better f.o.v.

why an optima and not the sturdier dr. optic?
-i am not aware of a useful dr. optic mount. if anyone has information on a shotgun barrel mount for the dr.optic, please contact me.
i considered fabricating a guard -a'la eotech or oko- but i haven't found a material strong enough to be worthwhile, that i could still work and finish to a professional quality.

here are the holes (eeek!) in my ta01's sunshade.
center is for locator pin.




the base started as a jp shotgun barrel optima base.
base was shortened slightly to trim up to the optima.
the top rear was slightly relieved to allow for greater range of adjustment of the optima.




bottom was recontoured to fit the acog with a dremel and sandpaper wrapped around a section of pipe.




base bridges depressed area of sunshade.
i cut a piece of innertube to fill the gap.




installed base is trim to the acog. rock solid.




screws are at approx. 45 deg. angle.
pin stops shift as you tighten screws.




finished product is aestheticaly pleasing, clean to the lines of the acog.




in this view, dot would appear in the center of the window. not really as tall as this pic makes it appear.

How about Carbon Fiber or Kevlar.  Just drape the fabric across the sight and apply the resen and you will have a hight strenght roll cage that conforms perfectly.  ???
