No, they can't.
Look at the mountable SF weaponlights, like the 95x and 96x series. You can mount them however you want and use either a tape switch or clicker for switching. They can also be moved from one weapon to another if needed. Go to the Industry forum and look at the ads from BrightFlashlights for some pics. |

You can invert the h.guards where the top will be at bottom with the switching on the left and the have the bottom h.guard on top. It won't feel exactly right but it will work if you're willing to adapt.
