today while shooting at the range, i went to about 130 rounds before the round fired and the it seemed to get stuck between the bolt face and the throat of the barrel. when i cleared the jam, the nose of the cartridge looked damaged. was it the ammo possibly? i cleaned and lubed before heading out too.

What you are describing dosent sound like a "stovepipe". A stovepipe is usually when the fired case is not ejected with vigor and the bolt slams shut trapping the head of the case (part with the primer) with the shell hanging out the ejection port.

This could be caused by a number of things, but I would first pull the extractor off and make sure it's not crudded up and make sure the ejector is not jammed.

If the bolt is slamming the nose of a unfired round into the barrel extension that is a Failure to Feed. This is generally a magazine issue.

while taking apart the gun tonight i found the problem, the bolt carrier rails and bolt were kinda crudded up with gun powder from a bullet that i had accidentally broken before firing from forgetting to close the bolt with the bolt release and instead i pulled the charging handle and caused some kind of a misfeed. i cleared it and the bullet had came off the casing and powder came out. i threw it away. thats what jammed it up.

I pulled a bullet like that in my PTR-91. What a mess, and especially in the roller-lock system.
