shot my rock river arms 16 inch flat top today. gun has 1 / 9 twist barrel. man a nice gun . really happy with it. just the standard gun. i shot 1 1/4 inch groups with black hills 55 grain at 100 yards ( with 10 x scope ). not as good at 200 yards ( wind killed me at 12 mph ). 200 yards about 3 inch groups and 3 inches low, 300 yards 6 inch groups 8 inches low. question i am going to use this gun for coyote hunting. i have all my shots 300 yards or less. i know that 300 yards is a long way for 16 inch barrel but i like the reduce weight of this gun. what would be the best all round bullet to use that would be a stabel bullet out to 300 yards ? i even shot a few 45 grain winchesters today ( 3600 fps ) did not shoot to bad even in 16 inch barrel. i hope these 3600 fps are ok to shoot in my gun ? should i try a real heavy bullet or what ? the old saying you cannot kill it if you cannot hit it. your thoughts please. thanks. marty mdo3059680@aol.com

First identify your barrels twist ratio ( Rock River= 1/8, 1/9), and read this; ammo-oracle.com

The 45gr Winchester varmint rounds will kill the shit out of coyotes at 250 yards in my 16" 1:9 Oly.

Oh good, I thought you were going to ask "What is that noise in the stock?"

what is that noise in stock ? also it does have a little twang to it when you shoot it ? not like a bolt but a lot more fun to shoot. marty

LOL! I clicked the thread thinking that was the question![8D] martyd - Some call it a "boing" and some call it a "twang". I just call it normal.

LOL. The noise in the stock is the buffer tube spring going boing as the bolt travels back and forth. When you clean your rifle, remove the buffer tube from the stock and take the spring out. Lightly oil it and it will reduce the noise.

My BUSHMASTER likes the WW 45 gr JHP too - but don't believe the 3600 fps - I've read of two people Chronographing it at 3200 fps out of a 20" barrel. I still love the ammo though.
