Went to our new range today and shot my Ar's. I shot wolf, olympic, and m193ammo as well as three boxes of sellier and bellot that was given to me. It was a green box ss109 with green tips. This stuff was great. I am not a very good shot and put a magazine full (20) inside of 4 inches at 200 yards. I don't see much about it on this forum. Anything I need to know before I start looking for it on the net. It looks like it is around $4 a box but have not found a case price.

S&B is good ammo with the exception of the occasional split necks you get with it, I had shot 2003 SS109 and also ammo made in 2004 I got split necks with both batchs.  Alot of people in the past said not to worry about the split necks.  I would love this ammo if it wasn't for the occasional split necks. It's clean ammo and a little on the hot side, not the hottest thou.  It's preety acurate to although I never measured the groups. I'm not sure if the newer 2005 batch is better when it first happen I contacted S&B in the US and they paid for me to ship it to them and they sent me newer ammo.  Great customer service by the way.  Some of my 2004 ammo still got the split necks, I think it is a mix between brass on the soft side and there crimping machines that cause it. Don't know if they fixed this issue thou.  Good Luck

Check the "Ammunition Review" tacked at the top of the forum - there is a S&B section there.  I have tried it myself and I have found it to be reliable and acceptably accurate.  I have also heard the soft brass comments, but it's never been an issue for me.  I have only put 150-200 rounds through it, not exactly a large sample from which to draw concluions.

You should consider though, that they use steel jackets in their 55gr "M-193" type rounds.  The jacket is about the same color as the brass - it's a thin coating to protect the steel jacket from corrosion, and to protect the barrel from the jacket.  The steel jacket isn't a real big deal, but it will prevent it from fragmenting, so it's not a good home defence/SHTF round.  I don't know if they use steel jackets in their M-855 rounds.  Normally I would say to check it with a magnet, but the steel core of the M-855 will also stick regardless of the jacket material.

Look closely before you buy. I have used S&B in the past and been happy with it. I recently pawed through some of the 20 green boxes at a dealers shop and noticed a 1000 round case marked $120.00. I bought it and put it with my other ammo. Weeks latter I opened the case and found 50 round boxes of steel cased 55 grain ammo. I have not shot this stuff yet but had I paid more attention I would not have bought it.  I did not know S&B made steel cased ammo. Whoops!

I haven't seen any S&B SS109 now for some time. The last I bought was in 2003. For 62 gr ammo, I liked the S&B. It was always reliable for me and it seemed pretty hot, right up there with the military loads.

I'd be interested in buying more of it, but like I said before, I can't seem to find anyone who has any in stock. Is anyone aware of a source who currently has it? Or is anyone aware of why there has been none of it on the market recently?

I bought some of the S&B greentips a couple of years ago.....I love that stuff and damn it,  wish I bought more!!!!!

I also have a couple of cases left of the older steel cased S&B stuff and it worked great in all my guns.

Comes loose in large brown boxes and looks almost exacly like the new polymer Wolf ammo
with the gray color.

If you ever find a source of the greentips please post it, I'd buy a ton of it.
