Ammoman touts it as "top of the line," but it is listed as "223", not 5.56. What are your experiences with it? Will my LMT 14.5" upper / Bushy lower eat it? The barrel is stamped 5.56, so I'm a bit hesitant to invest in it...

Though, if I'm not mistaken, the ammo oracle says that 5.56 barrels will shoot 223, but "223" barrels won't shoot 5.56.

Thanks

I'm going to save someone the trouble and use an illogical and oft-quoted argument: "I wouldn't want to get hit with it, so it must be pretty devastating."

There, now that that's out of the way, American Eagle .223 is probably pretty good for very short range. Somone posted a bunch of ballistic gelatin tests a few days ago from here that showed minimum penetration of 12" was achieved with this round, with decent fragmentation. Obviously the muzzle velocity isn't enough to "go long", since fragmentation will be nil at longer ranges, but in-the-house range it could be quite effective.

This is assuming you trust the reliability of each round to fire every time, extract, and cycle correctly. I've never had any problems with it in my AR-15, but of course you need to test yours.

And you are correct, a 5.56 marked barrel will eat any round in .223 or 5.56. The .223 barrel will only take .223 cal, unless you like shit to blow up in your hands (no handjob jokes, please, we're adults)...

Hope you find this helpful.

I bought a case form ammoman a few months back. It's great reliable plinking ammo and it's pretty accurate. NO problems what-so-ever in my 16" Bushy. Buy it....shoot it....enjoy it.

I find it shoots well from my BM. Very reliable and easy to stock up on.

Not the 'be-all' and 'end-all' super-tactical round but as previously posted- it has decent ballistic effects at short to moderate ranges.
