i'm confused about rings (first ar, so humor me a little)...

i thought the flat top uppers didn't need a base to mount rings? but, i keep reading in this forum about needing a base... why can't i just put a set of warnes straight onto my upper?

i'm confused... i'm waiting on my a-3 upper to arrive from model 1, and i have everything ready, except mounts... so, can i just put a set of warnes on the upper, and slide the leupold in and go shooting, or is there more to it?

I'm pretty sure you don't need a base at all.  The upper should accept a standard Weaver ring, no problem.

Some people like to use a base to (1) raise the scope up higher since most standard rings place the scope too low for comfortable use, and (2) move the scope forward for more eye relief.
