Quoted: You can make an NRA MATCH RIFLE out of a varminter flat top upper assembly. Just add iron sights. For SERVICE RIFLE it has to look like a standard A2 or flat top version (A4?) with a carry handle. All the trick work is done under the handguards on the Service Rifle. It all depends on which discipline you want to compete in.
Good luck,

Depends on which NRA match rifle competition you are doing, there are a few different ones. In the NRA Highpower you can basically make a varminter upper into a Highpower match rifle by adding good sights.
The NRA Service rifle match has essentially the same rules as the CMP Service rifle rules. In a nutshell it has to look identical to a regular service rifle, excepting a stainless barrel, national match sights, and a free floater barrel. Internally you can pretty much do what you want to it. You cannot have a detachable handle if it is going to be Service Rifle legal unless they just changed the rules on it this year.
