Whats the difference between varmint and national match upper halves?  i plan on shooting rabbits or coyotes as well as getting into matches into the future.  does national match means that they are match grade. im confused, please get me out of confusion. thankshug.gif

I think the National Match guns are set up for NRA High Power matches, IE having the features required for the match rules.  

You can make an NRA MATCH RIFLE out of a varminter flat top upper assembly.  Just add iron sights.  For SERVICE RIFLE it has to look like a standard A2 or flat top version (A4?) with a carry handle.  All the trick work is done under the handguards on the Service Rifle.  It all depends on which discipline you want to compete in.

Depends on which NRA match rifle competition you are doing, there are a few different ones. In the NRA Highpower you can basically make a varminter upper into a Highpower match rifle by adding good sights.

The NRA Service rifle match has essentially the same rules as the CMP Service rifle rules. In a nutshell it has to look identical to a regular service rifle, excepting a stainless barrel, national match sights, and a free floater barrel. Internally you can pretty much do what you want to it. You cannot have a detachable handle if it is going to be Service Rifle legal unless they just changed the rules on it this year.

Don't expect to get much back from the bunnies you shoot.

Really, thats cool. I had gotten a DCM rifle with the fixed handle because of that rule. But would have preferred a detachable so I could use the gun to double as a good varmint rifle. I might have to go and get a flat top upper now.
