Is it legal to but a vortex flash hider on a post band rifle as long as it is welded on and does not come off. And since the barrel is longer with it, can it be shortened so the overall lenght is 16 inches.

You cannot put a flash hider on a post ban AR. Well, technically I guess you could but you would have to remove the pistol grip. You can't have more than 2 of the "evil" features. Post ban AR's have a detachable magazine and a pistol grip. That's all they can have.

Nope, unless you wnat to give up your pistol grip, like Medicmandan said. One feature, only one. You could put on one of Kurt's fake flash hiders though, they look nice IMO. Unless you actually have a NEED for a flash hider...your rifle will display better accuracy without one.

Too many of us are starting to use "flash hider" when discussing the 'flash suppressor'. There is a difference. A flash hider is a conical shaped device that shields the shooter from the flash so as not to cause temporary loss of sight . You seldom see flash hiders anymore except in WWII movies. (Although the AR-18S used one well into the 1960's.) Flash suppressors are what are used on M-16's, preban AR's, etc., to help conceal the shooter from an enemy. Kinda like clips and mags - there is a difference.
