Good question.

I have the M44 on an a2 gov profile 20". I just recently shot a rapid fire session and didn't notice it getting overly hot. The barrel forward of the handguards was HOT.

NOW this wasn't 10 30 rds dumps or anything. 2 pretty fast (aquire target, fire as fast as possible) and the 3rd mag was very fast.

I'm very curious if your M44 will be rigid enough to hold zero on your sight.

I felt mine went on VERY solidly but I didn't have the need (too lazy)to try out any optics on it, for experimentation purposes.

Let us know how it does.

Here's mine, I love it.

Ridge,i couldnt see your pic,my handgaurd is very-tight,no play with sight mounted.i can co-witness the open sights with it so if it loses zero, ill be able to tell.i just really want to know from someone if theres any issues with my sight getting too hot because of where its mounted.

Dude I would bet that over time that sight is going to wobble a wee bit - I can see that you have a detachable carry handle. Why not take it off and mount that optic forward on the rail? The "N" battery EOTechs are small enough to mount it pretty well forward, no? BTW I'm not trying to piss on your parade here!

i guess i could do that and put a flip-sight on it,but i like the way this looks/handles and would like to use it like this.if the handgaurd starts to loosen-up i will go that route, but for now i want to try this, just dont want to burn my sight up.

The issue you need to worry about is whether your EOTech will hold zero attached to the handguard. Generally, unless it's a really serious rig, like Knight's stuff, the handguard attachment to the rifle itself is not rigid enough to maintain zero.

I have a Bushnell Holo II (didn't have enough pennies for an EO Tech) mounted on my FOBUS M33. So far, have had a problem with the heat from the barrel. Haven't more than 2 mag dumps in a row, but have gone through several 100 round strings on a combat course, in the open South Carolina sun. Only problem with heat was on my hands and sweat getting in my eyes. Sight and mounting system were flawless, so far.
