Hello,
I am new to ar 15's i have a few hand guns (sigsaur p220 .45, a SW shield 9mm, a ruger 10/22 rifle) I have a noveske 16" recon on its way.
I am looking to get a scope, I am looking at the leupold VXR scope, what type of mount should I be looking at?  and is this a good decision for optics? Is there any thing else I should be looking at in terms of optics?

I see all the options online for building your own AR and it is a bit overwhelming for a first time ar owner, so I just got a factory ar that thought would be a good starting point.
did I do well with the noveske?

I want to find an online source to buy ammo before gov Brown (CA) screws me. I want to buy a few thousand rounds for each fire arm. advise?

my noveske recon likes 75 grain hornady and 77 grain.
its a 1:8 twist, I think the ones now are 1:7.

optic, for me the distance i shoot i like a TA31 ACOG.
it really depends on where and how you use it as to the optic choice.

funny, at the private range i use people ask what the brand of rifle is
I tell them Noveske, and a lot of them have never heard of it.

they make some quality guns. and a recon is nice, really nice.
I dont know what trigger you have in it but make sure its a good one, and not a regular milspec.
I have a larue MBT. It helps.

Noveske is awesome! Great quality and the barrels are top notch.

Ammo only try palmetto state armory. They always seem to have good prices matched with extra stuff like magazines. I've only ordered from them once and it was over the weekend. So no comment on service yet but they are a site sponsor.

It's hard to beat a Leupold but I have no real experience with scopes yet. Hope someone can fill in the rest for you.

Leupold, lifetime warranty that you probably will never have to use! If for some reason you did send something to them it will be on a ups truck longer than it will be at leupold. There customer service is second to none, period.

I had one of the Recons from when John was around.  Not sure what they are like now but I would guess the barrel is still top notch.  The scope really depends on you.  A mention of ACOG is ok but the rifle is capable of shooting out to pretty solid ranges and can get good use out of a scope like the Vortex 2.5-10.

Leupold makes decent enough scopes but you should really look around for reviews and check the dates on them.  For an AR you can use individual rings but mounts are a better option.  There are many options out including American Defense Machine (adm), Larue, Bobro, Geissele and Aero.

In terms of rounds for the gun look around at quality offerings.  Some of the real performers for that gun will be rounds using 69 grain seirra match kings or the 77 grain open tip match round.  If you were a smart guy you would test a handful of rounds in small batches shooting for groups.  After you shoot a couple rounds look at them and determine which shot the best for you and at what price you can get them.  My stock up round is from magtech/cbc that is 77 grain OTM.  I have several thousand of them.  They were not the tightest shooting round for my current recon style gun but they shoot really consistently at about 1 moa.  With that I can stretch the gun out to 7 or 800 yards and know how it will preform.  The reason you fix on a round and buy up that round is that you can get data for your gun and round and don't spend every range trip checking zero and dinking around with a new bullet.

Also welcome.
