I have a bunch of chrome lined mid length barrels, so I put put this together to see what it would look like.

The barrel is a RRA 16" chrome lined with the mid length gas system covered up by the ARMS #58. The brake is fake, upper receiver is RRA, bolt is RRA that was hard chromed, front sight PRI, rear sight ARMS #40.
Optics ACOG TA11, ACOG TA47, and a really old Aimpoint with a GG&G mount. steve |

High Power shooters have been using 80 gr projos for years, without 1:7.

Says who? I know of people using 1:9 with 77gr. across the course(2, 3, and 600yds.) just fine. I only use a 1:8, which is all thats needed for my 80gr. loads.

Its been hit and miss depending on the manufacturer and the conditions on whether it will stabilize. With 1/8 or faster its guaranteed.

There have been several threads on it. I'll chalk it up to "believe what you see and not what you read on-line." Billy posting about his DPMS a (possibly shot out throat)a and handloaded 77 grainers VS. what I have see in Match use is answer enough for me. Its close though, as a 1:9 will NOT stabilize an 80gr. Either way, I have some 1:7 SS midlength barrels (turned down under the handguards) on the way from White Oak Precision if that would interest you. |

Actually, it was KevinB and Brou discussing it in the GA Precision ammo thread and several other places.
Then theres always the hope for eventually seeing the 100gr loads [;)] Its not a matter of it NOT working, its a matter of getting the full accuracy advantage out of the rounds. |

I cant imagine a 100gr. That would be nice. Lets see, you need at least 1:6.5 to stabilize a 90gr..
I have 1:6.5 pac-nor coming that I'm going to use for LR this season. I can hardly wait until June when I get my first chance at 1000. For a 100gr. you'd need an LONG throat, a compressed charge, and it still may not make the velocity needed.. |

Looks nice with the SIR, tried any with a PRI handguard? I think we need to designate an acronym specifically for mid-length 16" carbines with modular or rail system forearms and magpul, crane or vltor stocks. SPR is taken, M4 is taken, but it's a mix of the two... SP-4? By the way, on that first pic, doesn't the ARMS #40 stick up your nostril when you get the proper eye-relief on that Ta-31?..wait a minute, that's a TA-11 isn't it? Or do you index by clamping the charging handle in your teeth? [ROFL] |

An URX midlength that incorporated the fixed front sight on a midlength barrel would most definitely be my dream come true. Coldblue if you're listening, please at least do a limited run on something like that. Pretty please? |

Lumpy was referring to the 100gr. developed by the military for use on existing barrels. The long throuat wouldn't be needed as these are desiged to be fired out of the standard M4 barrel. |

All they need is a 1 in 7 as they are not as long as a JLK VLD 90 grain. They fragment extremely well. The charge is compressed but can be compacted using different techniques. The bullets velocity can be enhanced significantly with moly coating, because the bearing surface is so long. It seems that the ammunition forum people pissed off some folks from Crane when they did their independant 100 grain tests. It seems the ammunition forum people know a little on how a cartridge goes "bang," to equal the performance of the Crane loading. Too bad Crane hasn't been happy with someone doing independant test proceedings, as it would make a good cooperative. You can check out the gelatin tests in the ammunition forum. |

Actually the 14.5 and 16" Carbines in 1:9 do not do very well with the 77gr bullets. I cant keep them inside 3-4MOA where as the 1:7 Colt RO921 I have will keep them inside 1".
As Naked80 pointed out 1:7 does fine with the 100gr OTM |

MSTN has been doing custom stuff here for a long time, maybe you did nto mean your comments as a dig but it looked like it to me. I have no idea why you'd post this. If another vendor makes custom pieces, I’m obviously not referring to them. Why would you even assume it was directed at a specific individual? It’s an advertising claim. “Unlike other vendors who assemble the same old pieces and call them "custom", I can give you exactly what you want, and what no one else has.” – Is basically a word for word quote from a post I put in the EE several months ago. I’ll replace the word “other” with “some” if that would be more appropriate. As in “some” vendors tell people cutting barrels will ruin them, while “others” have been successfully doing it for years. |

Fair enough answer. While I guess not technically custom Wes helped design the PRI Extra High Aimpoint mount... Furthermore has has had runs of custom AR's in various flavour that he has spotlighted to help individuals make choices.
