i only load about 6 to 8 rounds in my mags so the bolt catch gets more contact than if i loaded full mags and i shoot a lot.

Hard to wear out parts these days. But it wouldn't hurt to have spare parts.

You don't shoot enough for it to be an issue, I guarantee it.

Stop worrying about things that don't matter and just shoot your rifle.

If you shoot your rifle a lot as you've said, you should replace all the lower receiver parts at 10K rounds to prevent any problems from occurring.

Here's a good thread to read about "What Parts Break in a Carbine Course" (summaries are on page 48 & 49).

Buy a replacement bolt catch and spring.... hell buy a replacement LPK and put it in a drawer.

No one can tell you if or when your parts will break.  Always have a spare and when/if it happens it happens.

This.
I've never seen one break, but if you're worried about it just buy an extra LPK to have around.  It never hurts to have spare parts on hand.

Have spare...its a 2 minute replacement job if needed.  You can replace nearly everything on the AR VERY easily.

I've broken 2 of them. They are kind of a cheap part.

Probably, unless you dry fire without a BCG or something to catch the hammer.

Ive broken parts, but that was back in the days of $79 dollar cases of ammo, and Colt, Bushmaster and Olympic being the only names in the game. With the rise in quality out there today and the fact that no one can really afford to try and melt a barrel anymore its not going to be like it used to.

I know bolts, extractors, bolt stops, gas keys and gas rings will break. Ive broke or seen that stuff break.

For someone who claims to shoot as much as you say you do, you should really learn your weapon system better.

If you can afford to shoot 1000 rounds a month, you can afford to buy a spare LPK to keep in case something does break.

*sigh* '13'ers...

Exactly.

When people start throwing out numbers, that's when the BS meter starts to ping.

A 1000rds a month at 6-8rds at a time? In CA?

Well if you shoot 1,000 rounds each month and only load 6 rounds at a time you are reloading and changing mags about 166 times each month. You had better buy a spare mag catch too.

When my heavily used circa 1982 CAR had intermittent failures to lock back on the last round I eventually realized the bolt catch system needed attention.  In my case the ROLL  PIN which retains the bolt catch was very worn where the bolt catch bears on it.

If you shoot that much, you should know what breaks and what doesn't. Also, if you can afford that much ammo each month, a few extra LPKs lying around wouldn't be shit to you.
