This is what I'm planning on building, already have my lower and ready to start piecing it together. Building it as a mid range plinker/shtf/hunting ar . Probably get an m-223 nikon to top it off.  If I like the bullets I handload I might take a few deer with it this year, if not I know a bunch of groundhogs it will have fun with.  Here in WV, I don't get 250 yard shots on anything, 200 is really pushing it most shots are within 80 yards that's why I thought the 18 inch barrel would be give me enough velocity for the distance I'll be shooting.  Thanks for the comments in advance.

You probably wont get many replies unless you let people know what you plan using it for. Asking people what they think of a build and listing some parts doesn’t allow people to point you in the right direction.

200Y?

Throw a 14.5" barrel on there. 18" is overkill.

See I really like the 18 inch looks for more of a second kind of cool thing, If i'm clearing rooms I'd agree, but that's what my 870 tactical is for.

I agree. You don't need 18" for 200yd. 14.5 or 16" would be plenty.

If you're getting the 18" for looks, that's your call. Build it the way you like it.

ETA: You're going to need some BUIS. Troy Battlesights are top of the line. MBUS are very popular to save some cash, especially if you're going to be using an optic most of the time.

I like the color of the mbus, but I haven't looked into irons too much yet, building my lower this month. You guys might convince me for the 16 inch barrel, but since a 14.5 has to be pinned and welded to 16 then I might as well just get a 16 or at least thats my mode of thought

16 is the easiest way to go. That's what I did. My next one will probably be a 14.5. I think alot of places will pin the FH on before shipping it.

I was going to go with a 16" barrel but after adding a flash hider/muzzle break it would have been 17"-18" so I went with a 14.5 pinned to get it exactly at 16". After doing alot of reading I should have no problem with accuracy and velocity at 200-300 yards. But 75% of all my shooting will be within 100 yards

If you're building a varmint shooter then the 18" or longer should be fine. If you're not building a varmint shooter then I'd go with either a 16" or a 14.5" barrel (pinned & welded flash hider). Personally I prefer a 16" so you don't have to mess with pinning & welding. A 16" also allows you to swap out muzzle devices and/or even a suppressor in the future.

I'm really liking the Seekins Precision SAR Quad Rail handguard. Rainier Arms carries them. They are the sharpest looking rails I've seen yet.

He already said he won't get past 250Y.  18" is not going to give him anything except weight.

Exactly ... which is why I said what I said If we are nitpicking then the OP also said he is considering a 16" due to the whole pinning & welding fact. That said, most of what I posted is redundant except for what I said about the Seekins handguard

I'm not looking for tactical but more practical, I'm a college student so who knows where I might find work after this coming year.

I'm kind of going for a build similar to this- but I do not know enough to be able to know the barrel length just by looking

for reference, this is a 16" barrel with a 2.1" muzzle device and a 12" rail

looks like a 16" barrel
troy TRX Extreme 15"
A2 Flashhider
forged upper/lower
ergo grip
moe stock
very weird setup with a light where the front sight should be

For SHTF, I would agree you'd need BUIS, but I don't see a need for them if your purpose is hunting.  Also, for the distances you'll be shooting, I'd go 14.5 inch barrel.  Last, I've seen the Aero Precision stripped lowers for like $80 on aimsurplus.com so you could save $20 there.

What length rail and why that break?  The Nikon m-223 line is nice. I enjoy mine I will try to post picks of my mostvrecent build tomorrow. I thinkit is in line with what you are looking to do.

I already got my aero lower from a local shop for 100 even all tax and transfer included, I thought it was a good deal.  I was looking at a 15 inch handguard for looks, and the break/comp for looks, what would you recommend I'm open to anything, besides that jp is pricy

I'm a need for speed guy but 20+ is too heavy for sure, I'm still liking that 18 inch, after thinking about everything it will probably be a plinking to shoot better for hunting season rifle. Then I'll hunt with it. crows, groundhogs, maybe deer...maybe
