my title sums it up.  Picked up a very early production SP1 (late 60s), and the outside on the barrel has a fine layer of rust and rust inside the holes of the flashider.  Want to know if there is a solution that will help remove it and if it can be removed with out buffing off the parkerized finish.

thanks, I've done this with my C&Rs but it always removes the bluing

also, I have some 000 steel wool would that be better or worse?

A bronze brush should not hurt the finish on your AR.
Steel is a different story all together...
