anyone ever timed themselves? I am not talking abotu rushing though it trying to be as fast as possible either.

components include a stripped lower, a LPK, and an m4 stock kit.

i timed myself a few weeks ago and I was at 7 min (i forgot the seconds)

I may try and see how fast I can do it one day.

I have done ~70 or so.

I've done 2.

They both took me quite a while, but I was really taking my time and being careful. I would guess maybe 20 min?

Around 30 minutes. Completed 70+ over the years.

I take my time to do the job right and fit the parts correctly. Have run across some receivers (example- Olympic Arms fire control pocket not milled out enough) that needed more than pressing in the parts, so that adds time. Even add in the little stuff like a drop of paint to cover bare metal on staking and roll pins, etc.

Remember that when you hurry the process, scratches happen as well as ending up with springs upsidedown or missing

Its takes me about 5 hours, but I get paided to do it.

I did 6 in an hour, including stopping to take photos in between each lower and of various points along the assembly process. No scratches or dings.

Then I didn't build any for a good while and managed to put a small scratch on a lower even when I was taking my time.

The question is , WHY?

IMO, if there is no reason to rush something, than you shouldnt. especially when it comes to the trigger guard, that is what takes me the longest time. I can put one together in 10-15minutes, but I dont rush. also I go a lil further with my builds and do the rear detent spring mod, so that adds some time.

I can usually do it between 20 and 30 minutes....if I have trouble with the bold hold open pin, it can take much longer. I think I have built 5 so far.

I've done a couple hundred. In a steady rhythm It takes me 14-15 minutes...

I would guess over 100 so far. I have never timed it but 10min seems about right.

my wife helped/learned last night and we did it in 2 commercial breaks..

About 2 hours. I like to cherish the moment, as I have only completed 4 lowers.
Link Posted: 9/7/2010 12:54:35 PM EDT

Did my first a month ago. Took about an hour. Double-checked every step.

It takes me as long as it takes to do everything properly, and to not scratch the finish.

Building something as fast as you can will greatly increase the likely hood of malfunction due to poor workmanship.

1/2 hour or so. I've built 5 lowers
Link Posted: 9/7/2010 1:17:55 PM EDT
I've done 5 lowers

2 of them have scratches on them from where I rushed it and did them in about 15 minutes.

The rest took around 30-45 minutes.

25-30 +/-
I've never timed myself for speed
the point of doing it myself is taking my time and making sure things are right and of course the enjoyment of the putting it together plays a part
20-30mins probably average if nothings screwy, the race isnt always about the finish

It took me over a year to do the one I just test fired this morning. Do I win anything?
Link Posted: 9/7/2010 2:45:38 PM EDT
I never tried to go for speed, just take my time and enjoy.
Link Posted: 9/7/2010 3:12:48 PM EDT
Took me 65 years.
Link Posted: 9/7/2010 3:28:07 PM EDT
Around 12 lowers. 20 minutes each, no rush...
Link Posted: 9/7/2010 3:43:52 PM EDT
My first and only one I put together took 39 min.
Link Posted: 9/7/2010 7:02:57 PM EDT
No one said 87 minutes......

I've done 25-30, as a rough guesstimate. I did one last week, and happened to notice the time before I started, and when I finished because I was running late for work when the guy came over, but, while showing somebody how to do it, and with taking time to show him everything, and explain it all, 15 min. With nobody to teach, I usually knock one out in well under 10 min, without scratching anything.

For those who have trouble installing the trigger guard roll pin, it's REALLY easy, to just press them in with a bench vice. Use a soft jaw on the receiver side, and the regular steel jaw on the pin. Sinks it right in, and takes less than a min.

Easy as ya please...

Assembled one tonight, took about 30-40 minutes just taking my time.

I only built one so far, made a good number of mistakes and wanted to really get to learn how all the parts work together (I tend to be very analytical when it comes to machinery or electronics) and so I examined every piece and how it works as a part of the whole... Took me about 3-4 hours after all was said and done with a couple small nicks on the lower. I wasn't as careful as I should have been about using masking tape to protect the finish. Oh well, love scars is what I call em.

I've only done 10. Never timed myself, but 15-20 minutes is about right without rushing. To me it's not like unwrapping presents at Christmas time.

Built 15.

Average time to build lower is ~20 minutes.
Link Posted: 9/8/2010 9:48:37 PM EDT
first and only one so far took probably close to 3 hours lol

Had some problems with the hammer and rear takedown pin.
