How did you go about aquiring your ammo?

Online dealers, local dealers....through a friend?

I am just curious as to what you all have found to be the best, most affordable way of aquiring ammo.  How much do you average a month (cost and numbers of purchases).

Crazy questions I know...but I am curious as to how a lot of you aquired the amount that you have.

Thanks in advance.

FSAG - what is the best way to aquire 5.56mm rounds in bulk?

Decide what type of ammo you want and then check the Ammo Price List for pricing and availability.

Personally, I buy locally at gun shows or Dick's/Gander Mountain if they are having a sale and I also mailorder from a couple of the online vendors./.

Find what you want and only buy when it is on sale enough to justify the expense. That is after I spend enough on ammo to feel safe though. I had 3k of 5.56 in strippers/boxes/ammo cans before I felt comfortable enough to try the sale prices.

Watching for good deals with online dealers. +1 on reading the ammo price list tacked in this forum.

Best deal I can find, on the blasting ammo anyway.

Most of the .40S&W ammo I have came from Natchez.  It was the cheapest I could find per round at the time.

All the 5.56 ammo I have came from AIM Surplus (which is actually local pickup for me).

.22LR all comes from Wally World.

The rest of it, price per round isn't as big of a deal because I don't go through as many rounds, like hunting ammo.  Carry ammo is given to me by my PD, so I don't have to buy that at all.

Go to AIM Surplus. They're a very popular vendor here, and I've bought from them several times myself. I haven't bought very much ammo locally since it's usually a good bit more expensive than you can find it online. If you check the Ammo Price List thread there's a whole list of places to buy ammo from.

As far as the best way to acquire ammo in bulk? Not at a gun show, at least in my experience. I don't know what part of Mississippi you're in, but if you've been to any gun shows in Jackson there's the same over-priced ammo guy at every gun show. He talks a line of BS when pushing his way over-priced ammo. Just heed the advice in my first paragraph, buy online.

Buy in bulk as much as you can afford. For me online is usually best, then sales at local retailers, then gun shows.  Most important factor is to shoot less than you buy.  This is also the most difficult thing to do.

Then when you realize how much you are spending, take up reloading and start hoarding components and spend too much on those.  At least that is how I did it.
