I may be wrong. I got the impression that the height of detachable carry handle for colt M4 is different from that in standard carry handle. I have a flat-top upper. Will that be an issue?

The height for the Colt M4 handle & front sight is a bit different from the 'standard' parts.  Why? who knows?  But they did it.

If you use the two together there are no issues if you use the Colt handle with a Bushmaster/Armalite/RRA upper (or vice versa) there is a problem with zeroing IIRC one will need several clicks of elevation to properly zero.
