Free float tubes can go longer, I find 9" to short.

Interesting, I have the same question as the OP...  So on a 14.5 middy would a DD Omega X 12" work with a low profile gas block then?

Yes, even if you have a full size sight tower they sell free float tubes that have a cut out for the full size fsb.

On a Mid-Length gas system:

A 9" rail makes it up to the gas system where the Front Sight Post would begin.  Ideal for use with a Front Sight Post.
A 10" rail covers about half of most low-profile gas blocks.  Some fit almost perfectly.
An 11" rail covers most low-profile gas blocks entirely.
A 12" rail covers all low-profile gas blocks.

I only see the Omega X 12" FSP for Carbine length gas systems.  Am I missing something here, would the 12" FPS work on a 14.5 middy?

I only see the Omega X 12" FSP for Carbine length gas systems.  Am I missing something, this would work with a middy correct? I would really like to have a FSP versus a low profile block.

No, that wouldn't fit a middy. Check this out...http://danieldefense.com/rail-systems/ar-15-lite-rail/ar15-lite-railtm-12-0-fspm-mid-length.html

edit: fixed link

No, that one will not work on a mid-length. You'll need to look at the DD AR15 Lite Rail 12.0 FSPM, Mid-length or the DD M4 Rail 12.0 FSPM, Mid-length then.

Just chop the FSB or go with a low-pro gas block and then pick a full 12" rail.

Going with the 12.0 FSPM and keeping your front site tower (as suggested above) is less useful since you won't be able to mount a light at 12 o'clock with it.

I like that suggestion of going with a full 12", I was looking for mounting options for a light at 12 o'clock.

Thanks for the info everyone.

If you already have your upper and want to cut/shave your FSB the DD Omega 12.0 would be the easiest way to get what you want.
